Temperament

The Golden Retriever is a very gentle and patient dog, especially with children. They make an ideal pet, craving and giving affection to all who come in contact with them. Golden Retrievers are incredibly intelligent and want to please their owners which make them an ideal choice for working or caring dogs.

Weight

The Golden Retriever is very easy to please at mealtimes, having a desire to eat almost anything. Because of this, however, care must be taken to make sure they are not overeating as they are highly prone to weight gain.

Muscles & Joints

Adult Golden Retrievers require a reasonable amount of exercise to ensure they stay in shape and healthy. As the name suggests, Golden Retrievers have a natural ability to play fetch, and a love of water, so chasing balls and going for a swim can be great ways to keep them fit. Puppy Golden Retrievers need to grow at a healthy rate so that their body weight is matched to their bone growth. If they put on too much weight too fast, this can cause stress on their developing bones and joints.

Skin & Coat

Golden Retrievers have a long, resilient coat with a dense undercoat. They need to be regularly brushed and groomed to keep them in peak condition.
