Getting to know your Jack Russell

Jack Russells are famous for their high energy levels and matching personalities.

They are a devoted breed who will happily focus on their owner but respond well if socialised with other animals when they are young. Like most terriers, the Jack Russell can be quite determined and a bit of a challenge to train. However, they are generally very smart dogs that will eventually come around to your way of thinking if you persist. This breed is agile and athletic which is why ROYAL CANIN® Jack Russell food has been specially designed to help them maintain muscle mass and support vitality.

Temperament

Jack Russells are small dogs with big personalities and have more energy than they sometimes know what to do with. Once hunting companions, their inherited stamina can keep owners on their toes, especially when it comes to training. Although they make excellent family dogs, they can be known to be sneaky escape artists, digging holes in the backyard to try and find a way out.

Weight

Jack Russells are generally not picky eaters and will happily eat anything in sight. Because of this and their small stature, it’s important their meals are portioned correctly to keep them in good shape.

Muscles & Joints

This breed is incredibly active and keeping them healthy requires frequent exercise to help make the most of their high energy levels. Feeding them a diet with an optimal protein content helps maintain their muscle mass and supports their vitality.

Skin & Coat

The Jack Russel has a dense double coat that can be either rough or smooth. By giving it a good groom with a brush once a week, you'll find that it stays in the best of health.
