GETTING TO KNOW YOUR LABRADOR

Labrador retrievers are a very popular pet amongst families as they are good-natured, very active and affectionate to all.

They are intelligent dogs and easily trained, with members of the breed frequently chosen to become assistance or search dogs. Labradors have a reputation for eating anything and everything very quickly. As they enjoy eating, they are prone to gaining weight. This is why our tailor-made Labrador food has an adapted calorie content to help them maintain an ideal weight. As they tend to eat quickly, our special kibble shape helps them breathe when their mouths are full.

Temperament

Labradors are very friendly and make a great companion to any household. They are adaptable and enjoy social environments, bonding well with children and other pets. Labradors enjoy training and obedience and are generally quick learners. Patient and loyal, Labradors love to play outdoors, especially in the water.  They can tend to get bored easily, so keeping them mentally and physically stimulated is important.

Weight

Labradors are not fussy eaters and will generally eat anything in their sight. They are prone to weight gain so it is important to keep an eye on their eating habits and limit their food intake. Feeding an appropriate diet helps keep their weight under control.

Muscles & Joints

With a strong, heavy built body and square proportions, the Labrador retriever is classified as a working dog.  As an active dog with a solid frame, it’s important to include a healthy diet and exercise regime to help them maintain healthy muscles and joints. With an active lifestyle and a tendency to gain weight many Labradors develop joint problems such as osteoarthritis.

Skin & Coat

Labrador coats are easy to maintain, as their dense undercoat is weather-resistant and only sheds a moderate amount. Grooming should be done weekly and increased during moulting season.
