GETTING TO KNOW YOUR MALTESE

The Maltese is generally a pampered pet with the breed craving affection from their owners.

Early socialisation is beneficial for this loving and gentle breed, who enjoy being lapdogs but also getting out and about. Maltese can tend to being fussy with their food, which is why their diet should be highly palatable with flavours and textures that they prefer.

Temperament

The Maltese is a trusting breed that is usually dedicated to its owners. However, this breed doesn't respond well to being overprotected. Maltese who are treated this way tend to become shy around strangers as they become more territorial over their space and owners.

Weight

The Maltese breed is fussy when it comes to feeding and these dogs are not big eaters, preferring to pick at their meals throughout the day than eat in one sitting.

Muscles & Joints

As a toy breed, the Maltese is very small which generally doesn’t put too much strain on their muscles as they tend to be indoor dogs. It’s important however that this dog gets regular outdoor exercise to maintain optimal joint health.

Skin & Coat

Maltese have a signature long straight, soft white coat that requires daily brushing and ongoing maintenance with professional grooming and clipping. Regular care will ensure that their silky coat is kept in peak condition.
