GETTING TO KNOW YOUR PUG

Pugs are most recognised for their wrinkly face, short nose and energetic expression.

They have a friendly attitude and enjoy rough and tumble when it comes to playtime. They love to be the centre of attention and crave affection from their owners, and love to give it too. Pugs do have a tendency to overeat however, which is why their diet should have a controlled calorie content.

Temperament

Pugs are highly spirited and sociable, getting along well with other pets and strangers. They are especially well behaved around children. Their happy and enthusiastic nature means that they are always perfect little companions.

Weight

The Pug breed tends to overeat at mealtimes making them especially prone to weight gain. It’s important to monitor their food intake and make sure their weight is maintained.

Muscles & Joints

Although small, Pugs have a solid build with a hefty bone structure. It’s important their diet helps to maintain muscle tone to be able to support their heavy frame.

Skin & Coat

Pugs come in several colours: silver, apricot, fawn or black. They usually have a black face, ears and ‘trace’ (the coloured line of fur that runs from their shoulders to their tail).  The pug has a soft, fine coat that is easily managed. Pugs shed heavily so it’s important to brush and comb their coat to avoid excessive shedding around the home.

BECAUSE PUGS HAVE A SHORT MUZZLE

The ROYAL CANIN® Pug kibble has been specifically designed for the Pug’s short muzzle. The kibble’s unique texture and shape makes it easier for the Pug to pick up their food and encourages proper chewing habits.

ADULT

Over 10 months old

Healthy Skin

Due to their dense folded skin, Pugs are prone to skin issues. This diet contains a high quality source of omega 6 fatty acids in borage oil, omega 3 fatty acids (EPA & DHA) from fish oil and specific vitamins that support the health of the skin and coat and the skin’s function as a barrier.

Muscle Tone

Pugs are a thickset breed with a solid frame. This food provides an optimal protein content and L-carnitine to help maintain the Pug’s muscle mass, while avoiding weight gain.

Ideal Weight

Pugs have a flattened face shape which makes them prone to breathing difficulties and heat stress. They do best and breathe more easily when they are kept at an ideal weight. ROYAL CANIN® Pug diet has an adapted calorie content to help maintain ideal body weight and avoid excess weight gain.
