GETTING TO KNOW YOUR ROTTWEILER

The Rottweiler is a strong, powerful and incredibly loyal breed of dog.

This breed is usually very protective of their owners and family when strangers are present. Although they are solid in appearance, Rottweiler health problems can include heart issues. This is why their diet should include nutritional support for their hearts.

Temperament

Rottweilers are incredibly loyal, playful and courageous. When trained from an early age Rottweilers make excellent working dogs, they can be very obedient and they are always very alert to what is going on around them. The temperament of the Rottweiler can vary: some being independent others being outgoing. Socialisation from puppy through to adult age is important for this breed.

Weight

It is not uncommon for Rottweiler bitches (females) to reach a weight of 40kg and male dogs to reach a weight of 50kg.

Muscles & Joints

Rottweilers are a muscular breed and built for sustained activity which can put extra stress on their joints. With their large size and muscular build, Rottweilers are prone to hereditary joint and bone disorders like hip dysplasia.

Skin & Coat

The coat of the Rottweiler is perhaps its most well-known feature. They have an impressive all black coat with tan markings, which typically appear on the face, shoulders and paws. Although they have double coats, the under coat is very fine and not visible through the outer coarse one. Maintain their shiny coat by feeding a super-premium diet.

BECAUSE ROTTWEILERS HAVE STRONG JAWS

Rottweilers have a box-like jaw, a broad snout and large teeth that meet in a scissor-like bite. ROYAL CANIN® Rottweiler kibble has been specifically designed for the Rottweiler’s strong, broad upper and lower jaws. The size, shape and density encourages the Rottweiler to chew its food before it swallows which also helps improve digestion.
